The Results Journey

Participants gathered around the Results Journey workbook, goals and follow up at Holistic Leadership

A shared working tool for every development journey

The Results Journey is the working tool used throughout Holistic Leadership's development journeys. It replaces passive note taking and is used actively by the participant, the team and the leadership trainer throughout the development process.

Keeping development active

The Results Journey keeps goals, priority behaviours, activities and reflections active between sessions and over time. It is an integral part of the delivery and does not need to be selected separately.

From each chapter to practical application

After a chapter, development session or working period, specific development priorities are selected. Goals, behaviours, activities, responsibilities, timing and next steps are documented for each priority.

Measures or other relevant evidence of progress are used to follow what is actually happening.

What this can look like in day to day leadership

The structure remains consistent while the content is tailored to the desired outcome, the current situation and the development journey being undertaken.

Individual or leader

Goal
Create clearer accountability in weekly management meetings.
Priority behaviour
Ask clarifying questions before decisions are made.
Activity
End each meeting with an owner, a deliverable and a date.
Measure
Proportion of decisions with clear ownership and a next step.
Reflection
When did my questions create clarity and when did I take over?
Next step
Practise giving the relevant manager greater ownership.

Team or management team

Goal
Improve delivery against shared priorities.
Priority behaviour
Raise obstacles early and ask for support.
Activity
Hold a short weekly review of shared priorities.
Measure
Commitments delivered and obstacles addressed in time.
Reflection
What helped us maintain direction and what caused us to lose it?
Next step
Clarify one dependency between two functions.

Three levels of follow up

The Results Journey distinguishes between behavioural change, completed activities and business outcomes. This provides a sound basis for review without attributing effects influenced by many factors to a single development initiative.

Individual level

Follows priority behaviours, reflections and how the leader acts in real situations.

Team level

Follows shared commitments, collaboration and what the team actually delivers between sessions.

Organisation level

Follows relevant business measures when they form part of the assignment and considers them in context.

The leadership trainer's role in follow up

The leadership trainer uses the Results Journey to challenge, support, review and adapt the work ahead. It shows what has been completed, where obstacles remain and what the next stage of practice should address.

From workbook to digital workspace

The Results Journey is being developed into a digital workspace linked to Holistic Leadership's development journeys. Individuals and teams will be able to keep their goals, activities, reflections and follow up together in one place.

Development that goes beyond insight

The Results Journey makes development visible, easier to follow and easier to sustain in day to day work. It connects the desired outcome, current situation, practical application and follow up throughout the process.

Which development journey fits your needs?

The Results Journey provides the working structure for practice and follow up across our development journeys. In an introductory conversation, we begin with the progress you want to create. We then clarify the current situation and the journey most relevant to your needs.
